San Diego Comic-Con Avatar Photofest

Hello, (takara)Zuko here! We've cobbled together photos taken by some
of our members, friends and random photographers we found online (yay,
Internet).

This report is brought to you by the letters Z, U, K, O and is locally written by mognetcentral (MC) and moriyama_umi (MU). Here are your co-hosts, as presented through the lens of Flickr user mikerollerson...

His style is very movie-poster-for-300, and we're ok with that! We also like this ones he took of hoshikaji as Aang and braisinhussy as Azula -- HOT!

MU: And while my photography is not up to par, here is a snapshot of tsukinobara I took with hanyaanfaery

Avatar madness at SDCC spanned 2 days. Friday was the panel with Mike and Bryan.

After watching the Avatar series when it had aired the previous Saturday, mognetcentral had the crazy idea to attempt making the fancy tea shop outfits the characters wear in the final scene. With her going full steam ahead with fancy tea shop Zuko, she also managed to somehow convince hoshikaji and moriyama_umi
to make fancy tea shop versions of Toph and Katara as well. (MC: I didn't actually finish fancypants Zuko in time, so FAIL for me, and I ended up bringing my old tea shop outfit)

Photobucket
Our lovely Katara (MU: The costume was wearable but still incomplete- needs more excessively squiggly designs.)

Sorry for this scary-lighting pic, but our Toph was adorable in person, I swear!

MU: And here we are with a Zuko we ran into on Friday.

Meanwhile, tsukinobara was preparing to make a grand debut
in her Wang Fire costume. It was definitely a sight to see. (MU: Also,
Wang Fire's beard was so soft, very pettable.)

MC: I personally never get tired of this pose
MU: To quote another Avatar cosplayer that night... "the only thing Wang Fire bends is the element of surprise!"

hoshikaji, our lovely Toph (and Aang in the masquerade) was chosen to go up for the costume contest. They gave out 15-ish tickets, and Bryke chose a few more people from the audience, including friend of TakaraZUKO, isshinsarutobi as the Phoenix King. He whipped this huge mantle out in just a few days and it looked fabulous. He took 3rd place, and favorite uncle makkurakoyappi won 2nd with her fancy Earth Kingdom Iroh.
Congrats to both of them! hoshikaji came back with a cute Aang bobblehead too.

Some more photos from after the panel...

Phoenix King says, "No son of mine works in a teashop!"

We got dressed in Season 2 Avatar outfits for a cosplay gathering on Saturday afternoon. When we got there, it seemed like a really small turnout, literally 2 other cosplayers besides us.

MU: LOL - it looks like Toph is telling me to talk to the hand!

After awhile, someone came by and told us that the gathering had changed locations. By the time we got to the new location, most people had gone, but we did run into some pretty cool cosplayers...

First up on the roster was Ember island Katara - she was perfect - even down to the sexy poses. Here she is with moriyama_umi as Katara. (MU: While I may look offended here, I'm really just wondering why I can't be as awesome.)

Poor in-jail Iroh has rice in his beard. Unkempt! And sad!

MC: This may look like Toko, but it's really just Hoshimognet

After the Avatar gathering, everyone headed back to our hotel rooms to prep for Saturday night's masquerade. But not before Zuko and Toph took a life-changing field trip to Mrs. Fields.

If you have not yet seen video of our masquerade skit - "TakaraZUKO Presents: West Side Story," please do check it out in this post it is filled with cracky wit from the mind of our very own hoshikaji and over-acted to perfection by mognetcentral. (MC: I have no idea what you mean by over-acting.) We were performing just to amuse ourselves and hopefully to please some Avatar fans, so it was definitely a big bonus when the skit was recognized with a "Most Humorous" award as well as awards and prizes from The Comic Gallery Store and Anime Pavillion.

If you've read this far, wow and thanks! ;) Please treat yourself to a photoshoot with a Hot Fire Lord...
